Jamelah Hersh (Senior Academic Officer)
My name is Jamelah Hersh from Cambridge, Ontario. I did my undergraduate degree in Children's Psychology at the University of Minnesota (#12 Percy Harvin, as he was, and the Vikings take precedence over all Green Bay Packer fans). My family is very proud to be from one of the only surviving Catholic cities in the country of Jordan. I miss my parents, my 3 younger sisters and my dogs, Tito and Lucy, everyday!
My family and friends have known me to be quite stubborn. I have always felt a level of uncertainty with what I have accomplished as far as satisfaction has been concerned. Despite the emotional and physical drawbacks one goes through, I am stubbornly certain of my ability to be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves -- all I am missing, is the knowledge of law to do so. Hence, my mission of getting to law school any way I could. So I did what I do best and I thought "outside of the box" , in this case, "outside of the country" :).
We all have different stories as to how and why we ended up in Leicester. Law school has always been a path I have driven towards, but like everything new and challenging, sometimes I just want to put it into reverse. Adjusting to the academic system in the UK is one thing, law school itself is another thing; However, going back to Canada is one of the biggest challenges we are going to have to face if we choose to do so. My duty to you, as the elected Academic Officer, is to help in any of these 3 areas. I am currently in the limbo period between law school and going back to Canada -- I am able to advise you on adjusting your study skills, preparing for your exams, and gearing you up to be ready for your journey home. Please feel free to ask me any questions or discuss any concerns.
